Amal Clooney Faces Possible US Entry Ban Over ICC Role In Israel War Crimes Probe
In February, ICC prosecutor and British lawyer Karim Khan became the first person to be hit with a US sanction against the ICC over investigations of US citizens or US allies. The sanctions include both economic and travel restrictions.

British lawyer Amal Clooney could face a ban from entering the US, where she lives with actor husband George Clooney, because of her role in the International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant. Clooney, who is a human rights activist, gave legal aid to the ICC in the war crimes case.
The Financial Times reported that Amal and several top British barristers were alerted by the UK Foreign Office over possible sanctions by the Trump administration. A former senior British judge, Lord Justice Adrian Fulford, the Labour peer Baroness Helena Kennedy of the Shaws, and Danny Friedman, a barrister at Matrix Chambers, could also face a ban.
In February, ICC prosecutor and British lawyer Karim Khan became the first person to be hit with a US sanction against the ICC over investigations of US citizens or US allies. The sanctions include both economic and travel restrictions.
Last year, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Amal Clooney played a key role in the case, providing advice to the ICC as to whether there was sufficient evidence to charge.
It may be noted that Trump's executive order does not name Amal Clooney. In fact, it does not name anyone apart from ICC prosecutor Karim Khan, but there are chances that Amal and other legal experts who helped ICC may face sanction, as hinted by the UK Foreign Office.
Who is Amal Clooney?
A British-Lebanese human rights lawyer, Amal Clooney married George Clooney in 2014. The couple are parents to fraternal twins.
Recently, rumours surfaced that George and Amal Clooney may be on the verge of a $500 million divorce over their move to New York. During his appearance on "CBS Mornings" last Monday, the actor said they had "never had an argument." He stated that they are "still trying to find something to fight about," according to E! News.
