The Indian government warns citizens about Pakistan-backed fake news on social media amid rising tensions.
As tensions between India and Pakistan once again escalated after airstrikes and cross-border conflicts, the Indian government has issued a warning to citizens regarding false information. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has indicated a possible rise in fake news and propaganda posts on social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram and asked people to be even more vigilant in the next few days.

Beware of False Information, Says PIB Fact Check

In a recent post shared by PIB Fact Check – the official fact-checking arm of the Government of India – users were warned that Pakistan-sponsored content could flood Indian social media feeds. The agency cautioned people to verify every message or video before believing or forwarding it.
“In the coming days, your social media will be flooded with #Pakistan sponsored propaganda. It's crucial to scrutinize every piece of information carefully,” the PIB Fact Check account posted on X.
