Netflix's TV app receives its first major redesign since 2013, with improved navigation and personalised recommendations.
Netflix is giving its TV app a big refresh for the first time since 2013. The company has announced a brand-new homepage design aimed at making it easier and faster for users to find what they want to watch. The updated layout is expected to roll out in the coming weeks and months globally. The goal is to make the experience simpler, smarter, and more personalised for every viewer.
A Simpler, Smarter Netflix Experience
Netflix shared details of the update in an official blog post, revealing changes designed to help users discover content quickly. For starters, viewers will now see key highlights like “Emmy Award Winner” or “#1 in TV Shows” directly on the homepage. This will help people make faster decisions about what to watch.
The biggest change in terms of navigation is the repositioning of essential buttons like Search and My List. These were previously tucked away on the left-hand side, but will now be placed right at the top for easier access. The overall interface is also getting a sleeker, more modern look.
Chief Product Officer Eunice Kim explained the goal behind the redesign: “We wanted to create an experience that was more flexible for our broad entertainment offerings, more intuitive and responsive to our members’ needs, and capable of elevating the most thrilling moments on Netflix.”
Smarter Recommendations on the Way
The homepage will also become more responsive to user preferences. Netflix says it will better reflect a viewer’s mood and interests over time, thanks to smarter recommendation algorithms. This means users are more likely to see content they actually want to watch, without endless scrolling.
Mobile App Updates Coming Too
Netflix isn’t stopping with just the TV interface. The streaming platform is also testing new features for mobile users. One of the highlights is an AI-powered search tool, currently in beta for iOS. This lets users search in natural language – like saying, “I want something funny and upbeat” – and get smart results.
Another feature in testing is a vertical video feed. This TikTok-style addition will let users swipe through short clips from shows and movies, making it easy to preview, save, or share content on the go.
