A Times Now reporter's car suffered damage in overnight shelling from Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir. Times Now journalist Saahil Suhail was reporting from an undisclosed location along the Line of Control (LoC), when he and others in the civilian area were forced to rush to bunkers as Pakistan resorted to unprovoked shelling and sniper fire. When they came out a few hours later, the car was seen with its rear windshield broken.
"Pakistani drones were shot down in Jammu, and in retaliation or desperation, they opened cross-border fire and shelling across the LoC," Suhail reported, withholding the exact location for security reasons. His vehicle was reportedly hit by a sniper round that ricocheted off a nearby road in a civilian market area.
"When we came out, we saw sniper rounds on the ground and our vehicle hit," Suhail said.
At least three sniper rounds have been fired since morning, he said. "This reflects how frustrated Pakistan forces are, they are targeting civilian areas."
The sniper activity and shelling have forced people along the LoC villages to remain in bunkers for safety.
Pakistan's Second Escalation In 24 Hours
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply on the night of Thursday, May 8 and into the early hours of Friday, May 9, following a series of cross-border military engagements involving drones and missiles. India announced that it had "neutralised" Pakistani drone and missile attacks targeting multiple military installations, including sites in Jammu and Pathankot on Thursday night. This came after Indian forces successfully thwarted similar attempts at 15 locations across the northern and western regions of the country, as tensions between the two nations intensified, raising concerns of a wider conflict.
Pakistan tried to hit multiple targets in northern and western India using drones and missiles. As per a PIB statement, Pakistan "attempted to engage a number of military targets in... Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles". Pakistan's attacks come hours after India launched Operation Sindoor which destroyed terror infrastructure in nine locations across the border and in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Pakistan's fresh attacks were neutralised by India using the Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. "The debris of these attacks is now being recovered from a number of locations that prove the Pakistani attacks," the statement by PIB said.
As of now, there are no confirmed reports of casualties or infrastructure damage on the Indian side. Security remains on high alert across all affected sectors.
