Mumbai: Thousands of commuters waiting for the BKC-Acharya Atrey Metro Station get an releiving news from the Maharashtra government on Friday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the Phase 2 of the Mumbai Metro 3 on May 9. Operation on the line will begin from May 10. This portion of the Aqua Line will connect Mumbai's top commercial area to residential zones, providing a better alternative to the traffic jammed-roads.
This stretch is fully underground and air-conditioned, giving commuters a much-needed break from traffic jams and heat.
What is Metro Line 3?
The Metro Line 3 is Mumbai’s first fully underground metro. The new section will connect busy places like Dharavi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex).
When the entire route is open, it will go from Aarey Depot in the north to Cuffe Parade in the south, stopping at 27 stations including Mumbai Central, CSMT, and Churchgate. The fare is affordable, starting at Rs 10 and going up to Rs 60, reported FPJ.
Once opened, it will save travel time and cut down traffic on crowded roads like Lady Jamshedji Road and Dr Annie Besant Road. It will reduce pollution and take pressure off packed local trains.
Some stations are not directly connected to nearby railway stations. For example, the Dadar Metro station is 1 km from Dadar railway station, which might be inconvenient for some people, the media report added.
