Chandigarh On High Alert: Air Siren Sounded For Possible Aerial Attack, Says Deputy Commissioner

Chandigarh: An air warning was issued by the Air Force Station in Chandigarh late Thursday evening, alerting of a possible aerial attack amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Following the alert, air raid sirens were sounded across parts of the city, prompting swift action from the local administration. In an urgent advisory, the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh urged all residents to stay indoors and avoid balconies or open areas as a precautionary measure. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and emergency services remain on high alert.

Police patrols ramped up, and residents are asked to switch off lights and draw curtains, as precautionary measures. The local administration assured that the situation was being closely monitored.

Neighbouring Mohali also issued a precautionary advisory, especially for residents in sectors close to the Chandigarh border.

"There is an alert in some areas of UT Chandigarh. We are advising Mohali residents in bordering sectors as well to remain indoors and away from windows and glass panes," said an official from the Mohali administration.

Residents are strongly urged to stay indoors, keep lights off, draw the curtains and stay vigilant.

Flights Suspended, Airport Under Air Force Control

Operations at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport came to a complete halt. The Indian Air Force assumed full control of the airport, grounding all domestic and international flights until further orders.

Ajay Kumar, CEO of Chandigarh International Airport Ltd (CHIAL), confirmed the development, stating that flight operations had been suspended in light of changing airspace conditions. The Chandigarh Air Force Station, which oversees runway operations and air traffic control, took over all airport-related activities as a security measure.

In an alert issued on social media platform X, the airport authorities stated:

“Due to changing airspace conditions in the region, all flights to and from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport are suspended until further notice. For assistance with rescheduling or refunds, please contact your respective airlines.”
