Ahmedabad Rain Forecast: IMD Issues Alert (Ahmedabad IMD website)
Ahmedabad Weather: Ahmedabad is bracing for intense weather conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for May 7 and 8, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms. The city is expected to see a cloudy sky with heavy rainfall on Tuesday, followed by thunderstorm activity and showers on Wednesday, with temperatures ranging between 21 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius.
On May 8 and 9, Ahmedabad recorded light to moderate rain, accumulating approximately 1 mm until midnight on Monday. In contrast, several peripheral areas experienced more significant rainfall, exceeding 10 mm, as per a TOI report. The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) reported that waterlogging affected some regions, while strong winds led to fallen trees and damaged hoardings.
The city's maximum temperature fell to 33.7 degrees Celsius, which is 7.8 degrees lower than the seasonal average. The minimum temperature also dropped to 20.9 degrees, 5.8 degrees below normal. The IMD forecasts that the maximum temperature will hover around 33 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, with light to moderate rains or thundershowers expected, accompanied by wind speeds reaching 60-70 km/h.
Forecast for Gujarat Rains
The IMD attributes the ongoing rainfall to an upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan. The forecast suggests a further drop in maximum temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next few days. Severe thunderstorms, along with lightning and moderate to heavy rain, are likely in districts such as Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Botad, and Kutch on Wednesday. The majority of districts in central Gujarat are also expected to receive moderate rain, coupled with strong winds and thunderstorms. Rainfall is predicted to persist until May 10, after which normal summer weather is anticipated to return.
Impact on Local Conditions
The SEOC reported that on Monday, at least 1 mm of rainfall was recorded in 142 talukas, with 14 talukas receiving over 20 mm. On Tuesday, 103 talukas reported similar rainfall levels, including 17 that experienced 20 mm or more. Notably, Mahuva in Bhavnagar district recorded an impressive 170 mm of rainfall on Tuesday, with 77 mm falling between 6 PM and 8 PM.
As Ahmedabad weather today continues to be influenced by these conditions, residents are advised to stay updated on the latest forecasts. The IMD's predictions for Ahmedabad rains and the broader Gujarat weather forecast highlight the importance of preparedness as the rainy season progresses.
