Mock Drill in India Live Updates: Mock drill at cross Maidan
At exactly 4 PM, the sound of a siren echoed through Cross Maidan in south Mumbai, marking the start of a large-scale mock drill simulating an air strike. The drill, conducted under Operation Abhyas, mobilized several emergency response teams including the Civil Defence, fire brigade, and paramedics, who sprang into action to assist simulated casualties.
The scenario began with a staged explosion and subsequent fire, prompting an immediate response from Civil Defence volunteers who secured the area. Shortly after, fire brigade teams arrived to control the blaze, while medical personnel provided on-site care to the “injured” before transporting them to nearby hospitals.
To enhance the realism of the drill, a high-rise rescue operation was demonstrated, in which a person was depicted as being trapped on the fifth floor of a building. Firefighters successfully carried out the rescue, showcasing their emergency response capabilities.
The exercise also saw participation from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Home Guards, and the National Service Scheme (NSS), among others. Despite rain-soaked conditions turning the Maidan muddy, all units performed their roles with dedication.
Speaking to reporters after the drill, Civil Defence Director Prabhat Kumar emphasized that the event was part of Operation Abhyas, and commended the collaborative efforts of various departments including the BMC, district authorities, and all participating emergency services.
