New Delhi: An air siren was sounded in Delhi on Friday at 3 pm at the Public Works Department (PWD) headquarters in ITO for a routine test. It is expected to last for 15 to 20 minutes. Earlier in the day, the Directorate of Civil Defence had informed the residents about the air raid siren testing. Officials have clarified that this is a scheduled exercise and not an emergency. Citizens in the area may hear loud sirens during the test, but they are advised to remain calm and not panic.
‘’The testing will commence at 3.00 PM and be carried out for a period of 15-20 minutes. Accordingly, it is requested that adequate publicity may be made through social and electronic media so that general public are advised to stay calm and not to panic during the said exercise,’’ the circular issued read.
Delhi Airport Update:
Delhi airport authorities confirmed on Friday that overall operations remain normal. However, some flights have been affected due to changes in airspace conditions and heightened security measures. These adjustments come amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to implement stricter security protocols.
In a post on X, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) reassured travellers that while operations continue as usual, a few flights have been impacted by the evolving situation.
"Please check with your airline for the latest updates. We urge everyone to rely only on official sources and avoid sharing unverified information. We're working closely with all stakeholders to minimise any inconvenience," DIAL said.
