Delhi Mock Drill: A large-scale mock drill will take place on Wednesday, May 7, across more 244 districts in India, including all major parts of Delhi. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed states and Union Territories to participate in the drill following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, most of them tourists. A 15-minute blackout will take place in the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area tonight from 8:00 pm to 8:15 pm. This is part of a nationwide mock drill to check how ready the city is for emergencies, according to news agency ANI.
The drill, though simulated, is designed to mimic wartime emergency scenarios, including hostile attacks, and aims to evaluate public response, inter-agency coordination, and infrastructure resilience.

Why This Mock Drill Matters

After the Baisaran meadow shooting in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam, allegedly carried out by Pakistan-linked terrorists, India has ramped up its civil and military preparedness. While security operations such as Operation Sindoor target terror camps across the border, this drill focuses on preparing civilians back home.
Residents are urged to cooperate and treat the exercise seriously, even though it’s a simulation. Authorities stress that there is no real threat, and the objective is purely preventive and educational.
Delhi Mock Drill Timings
  • A siren will sound to signal the start of the mock drill.
  • All indoor and outdoor lights must be turned off.
  • Emergency lights can be used only if windows are covered with thick curtains or cardboard.
  • Avoid using mobile phones or any gadget emitting light near windows.
  • Switch off gas and electrical appliances to prevent any untoward incidents.
  • Move to the safest part of your home — ideally a space with minimal windows or strong cover.
  • Carry out a family drill to practise emergency response.
  • Stay indoors, and use radios or TVs (with dimmed screens) to follow official updates.
  • Keep torches, dry food, water, and essential medicines ready.
  • A short siren will mark the end of the drill.
