India on Friday dismissed claims on social media about an explosion at Jammu Air Force Base. Jammu, along with several Indian cities in the northern and western states, witnessed a failed drone attack by Pakistan on Thursday night.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Press Information Bureau's Fact-Checking Unit said that an old and unrelated image was being shared with false claims of multiple explosions at the Jammu Air Force Base.
"Explosion at Jammu Air Force Base? Here's the truth! An old image is being circulated with false claims of multiple explosions at the Jammu Air Force Base in India. #PIBFactCheck This image is from the Kabul Airport blast in August 2021," the PIB Fact-Checking unit said in a post on X.
Following Thursday nights drone attack, Pakistan again fired a swarm of drones towards Jammu on Friday morning. The blast sounds were heard between 3:50 am and 4:45 am as security forces neutralised the threats following sounding of sirens.
India on Thursday night neutralised Pakistan military's attempt to hit military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur and some other locations with missiles and drones as tensions soared between the two countries amid fears of a wider military conflict.
Pakistan Unleashes Disinformation Campaign
After India's 'Operation Sindoor', India has unleashed a "full-blown disinformation offensive" with "lies" and digital theatrics to control the narrative. "Following India's decisive strike under 'Operation Sindoor', Pakistan has unleashed a full-blown disinformation offensive -- a desperate attempt to shift the focus and control the narrative with a barrage of lies and digital theatrics," officials told PTI.
"Their goal is clear -- to flood the information space with falsehoods so quickly and overwhelmingly that it becomes difficult to separate fact from fiction. This is not just misinformation; it is a calculated, coordinated campaign designed to distort reality, mislead the public, and manipulate perceptions across the region," they added.
