Ahmedabad: Gujarat will conduct a region-wise mock drill on May 7, today, as part of the nationwide "Operation Abhyaas." It is a civil defence exercise initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to test emergency preparedness and public response in the event of a hostile threat scenario. Districts across Gujarat have been divided into three zones — East, West, and Central — with different blackout timings scheduled for each.

What Citizens Should Do During the Drill
- Turn off all lights in homes, offices, and public spaces.
- Avoid using phones, laptops, or any light-emitting devices near windows.
- Move to a safe, enclosed space away from windows.
- Switch off electrical and gas appliances to reduce risk.
- Stay tuned to official alerts via TV or radio.
- Do not circulate rumours or unverified information on social media.
Authorities have urged full public cooperation and asked residents to take the drill seriously to strengthen Gujarat’s readiness for real emergencies.
