Air travel in India is facing serious disruption right now due to the ongoing India and Pakistan tensions. A total of 27 airports have been shut all across the nation to ensure safety. This has severely impacted flight operations as well.
In such a volatile situation, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), has announced enhanced security protocols across the country. If you are someone who has a flight today, or in the next couple of days, here are some things that you need to know.
  • Multiple airlines, including Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet, advised passengers to arrive at their respective airports at least three hours before scheduled departure.
  • For Air India and Akasa Air, Check-In will be closed 75 mins before departure.
  • All passengers at the airport will undergo Secondary Ladder Point Check (SLPC) before they board the flight. The secondary ladder point checking refers to re-checking passengers and their hand baggage just before boarding a flight. This comes in addition to the primary security checks.
  • The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has banned entry of visitors to the terminal building of airports.
  • Taking to X, Air India wrote, "In view of an order by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security on enhanced measures at airports, passengers across India are advised to arrive at their respective airports at least three hours prior to scheduled departure to ensure smooth check-in and boarding. Check-in closes 75 mins before departure."
IndiGo wrote, "In these extraordinary times, heightened security measures are taken up across all airports. We request you to allow some extra time for your journey to accommodate security checks and formalities. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation."
