Is Trump’s Plan To 'Buy Canada Over'? New PM Mark Carney Weighs In
Mark Carney delivered a powerful victory speech after his Liberal Party secured a third consecutive term in Canada's parliamentary elections. He criticised US President Donald Trump, proclaiming the end of Canada's integration with the US due to rising tensions over trade and economic instability.

Mark Carney is all set to return as the Prime Minister of Canada as the Liberal Party won Canada's federal election on Monday.
In his victory speech following a remarkable electoral win, where his Liberal Party made a stunning political comeback to secure a third consecutive victory in Canada's parliamentary election, Mark Carney, poised to remain as prime minister, sharply criticised US President Donald Trump. This election was described as one of the most important at this time due to rising tensions of economic instability and growing trade issues with the United States.
The era of integration between Canada and the United States is over, Carney declared, as his supporters erupted in cheers, rallying behind their new prime minister.
"Our old relationship with the United States, our relationship based on steadily increasing integration is over. These are tragedies but it's also our new reality," Carney added.
Carney further asserted that US President Donald Trump is attempting to divide the country in order to assert America's control over it.
"As I've been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country. Never. But these are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us. That will never, ever happen," Carney said.
"We are over the shock of the American betrayal but we should never forget the lessons. We have to look out for ourselves. And above all we have to take care of each other," Carney added.
Carney's remark comes as President Trump has been pushing to make Canada the "51st state" of the United States. His determination was so firm that he repeatedly referred to Canada's prime minister as "Governor" on several occasions.
Earlier, Trump even suggested "buying" the country, much like his desire to buy Greenland. Initially, Ottawa dismissed these comments as jokes, but as they were repeated, the tone shifted.
In response, Canada struck back with a counterproposal to "buy" the US states of California, Oregon, Washington, and Minnesota. Meanwhile, Trump imposed punitive taxes and tariffs on Canadian goods.
In the Monday election, Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada secured a new term. Notably, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre was defeated in his Ontario constituency by the Liberals, marking the end of his 20-year tenure. In his early Tuesday concession speech, Poilievre acknowledged his party's defeat.
Carney, an economist and former central banker, took over as prime minister in March after Justin Trudeau stepped down. Now, the question remains - Can Mark Carney restore ties between India and Canada?
India and Canada relations are at an all-time low. The relations between India and Canada came under severe strain following former PM Justin Trudeau's allegations of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
While New Delhi has rejected the charges as absurd, India has maintained that the "core issue" with Canada remains the space given to Khalistani separatists in the country.
Earlier, Mark Carney had expressed optimism about getting the relationship with India back on track. Carney, during a campaign on the weekend told network Y Media, "It’s an incredibly important relationship, the Canada-India relationship, on many levels. On the personal level, with Canadians having deep personal ties, economically, strategically.” Without addressing the ongoing issues between India and Canada, Carney said, "There are strains on that relationship that we didn’t cause, to be clear, but there is a path forward to address those with mutual respect and to build out.”
