Kochi: Kerala Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) received a bomb threat via email on Sunday night, warning of explosions across the state on Monday. This comes a day after Trivandrum International airport too received bomb threat.
Along with CMO, Cliff House (the CM’s official residence) and the Traffic Commissioner’s Office are also among the targeted locations. Police teams have launched an urgent investigation, even as security has been beefed up at all sites. The threat also raised alarm at Kochi (Cochin) Airport and Raj Bhawan.
The sender, identifying himself as Abdul Arulappadoss from the "Madras Tigers - The Resistance Front", issued an ominous warning: “Evacuate CMO and all personnel immediately. Consider this a hoax and that may be the worst chance you’ll ever take.”
According to police officials, the email was received late on the night of 27 April 2025, at around 11:34 PM. The message was sent from an account named 'Abdul Arulappadoss' via Hotmail to multiple addresses, including the official email of the CM’s personal secretary. The email warned of a “suicide blast using a sulphur-based IED” at the Chief Minister’s Office, timed specifically to “assassinate” Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. It further claimed that the explosives were planted within the Finance Department at Cliff House and were scheduled for detonation at 2:30 PM.
Threats Linked to Cross-Border Meth Cartel, Claims Email
The email claimed that the planned attack aimed to disrupt CM Vijayan's probe into a "cross-border narcotics network linked to DMK and the Jaffar Sadiq meth cartel", citing high-level conspirators, including an IPS officer and an “international hacking group.” It described the situation as a “Critical Threat Alert - Classified Priority Bravo-1.”
The authorities are trying to trace the origin of the email and confirm its authenticity. Meanwhile, security across key government premises and Kochi Airport remains on high alert.
