Long-Distance Runners Hemraj, Anjali Among 12 Athletes Suspended By NADA For Doping Violations

While Hemraj received a four-year suspension, Anjali Kumari got a more severe punishment, being handed a six-year suspension by the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). They tested positive for banned substances the previous year.
Hemraj, 25, won a bronze medal in the 5000m at the 2023 National Inter-State Championships and gold at the National Cross Country Championships in 2023 and 2024. He also competed at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships last year, where he finished 87th.
NADA initially imposed a provisional suspension on Hemraj, who has a personal best of 13:45.91 minutes, achieved in June 2023, after its testing officials found banned Darbepoetin (DEPO) in his sample.
However, the details about the substance that Anjali took, which led to her six-year suspension starting from March 31, remain unknown, as NADA did not provide any additional information.
Anjali, 25, competed at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships last year, representing India.
Meanwhile, NADA's ADDP imposed four-year bans on kabaddi player Manish Gulia, wrestlers Omkar Shankar Chougale and Divya Kakran, boxer Thokchom Yaisana Chanu, and swimmer Vishal Grewal.
Six-year suspensions were handed to powerlifter Amita Devi Kotwol and a minor track and field athlete, whose details have not been disclosed. Similarly, an unnamed minor boxer received a four-year suspension.
Boxers Ayush Rai and Mishthi Kajla, aged 19, who won bronze at the 2024 Federation Cup U20 Championships, have also been suspended.
