On May 7 at 4 PM, Mumbai and other Indian cities will participate in a nationwide civil defense mock drill aimed at improving emergency response to potential attacks. Mumbai Mock Drill: Mumbai, along with several cities across India, is set to participate in a nationwide civil defence mock drill today (May 7) at 4 PM. The drill, a part of a large-scale emergency preparedness initiative, is being conducted to train citizens and authorities in responding effectively to a hostile attack scenario. Believed to be the first such coordinated effort since 1971, the exercise aims to test evacuation protocols, blackout responses, and bunker readiness.

Mock Drill Locations in Maharashtra
The civil defence mock drill will be held at 16 sites across 10 districts in Maharashtra, including:
- Cities: Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Raigad, Jalgaon, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar
Authorities have urged citizens in these areas to fully cooperate and treat the drill with seriousness.
Exams to Continue as Scheduled
Mumbai University has announced that all exams scheduled for May 7 will be held as planned. Students are advised to proceed to their examination centres and follow drill instructions if they are present at a mock drill site.What to Expect at 4 PM
At exactly 4 PM, sirens will sound in participating areas. This signals the beginning of the drill. Here’s what citizens are advised to do:
Blackout Protocol
- Turn off all lights at home, in offices and public spaces.
Minimise Light from Devices
- Avoid using mobile phones, laptops or any light-emitting device near windows.
Move to a Safe Spot
- When the long siren sounds, head to the safest area in your home—preferably a room without windows or with secure cover.
Follow Official Updates
- Tune in to a radio or television for real-time updates from the authorities.
Switch Off Appliances
- Turn off gas and electrical appliances as soon as the siren is heard to prevent any accidental fires or short circuits.

- Keep torches, glow sticks, radios, bottled water, dry food, and essential medicines within easy reach.
