Bengaluru: Passengers at the Namma Metro's Baiyappanahalli metro station will not have to wait in long lines now. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has installed a QR code-based ticket vending machines at the metro station. It will allow passengers to quickly buy a paper ticket that has a QR code. Passengers can use this QR code at the entry gate to board the metro—just like using a digital ticket.
The officials added that the new machines are user-friendly, multilingual, and designed for self-operation. However, a contractor-appointed staff member has been stationed in the area to help those who are using this machine for the first time.
This system helps regular passengers avoid waiting in queues, especially during busy hours. The whole ticket-buying process takes less than a minute. “These kiosks are introduced to help commuters bypass the long queues at manual ticket counters,” said an official, quoted by the media report.
Before Byappanahalli, these machines were tested at M.G. Road and Cubbon Park metro stations, and they worked well, especially during big events like IPL matches, when more people used the metro. Now, two green-coloured machines have been placed at Byappanahalli. They’re easy to use, offer instructions in multiple languages, and if you need help, a staff member is there to assist, reported The Hindu.
“The earlier pilot at M.G. Road and Cubbon Park stations saw the deployment of six and eight machines respectively. Their utility was especially evident during large-scale events like IPL matches, when scores of passengers preferred using the vending machines over standing in lengthy queues,” it added.
Officials are planning to install more of such machines at busy stations across the city soon.
