Naomi Osaka Ends Four-Year Title Drought With Clay-Court Win In France
Osaka's latest triumph - albeit at the lower-tier WTA 125 level - marks her first title since becoming a mother in July 2023. The 27-year-old enjoyed a fine run, dropping a set apiece to French players Diane Parry and Leolia Jeanjean en route to her first tournament victory in four years.

Naomi Osaka ends her four-year title drought in Saint-Malo, France.
Naomi Osaka ended her four-year wait for a WTA title on Sunday after beating Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan 6-1, 7-5 in the final of the L'Open 35 de Saint-Malo tournament. Osaka last won a tournament at the Australian Open in 2021.
The 27-year-old Japanese player’s latest triumph - albeit at the lower-tier WTA 125 level - marks her first title since becoming a mother in July 2023.
A wildcard entry into the event, Osaka enjoyed a fine run, dropping a set apiece against French players Diane Parry and Leolia Jeanjean en route to her first tournament victory in four years.
“Kinda ironic to win my first trophy back on the surface that I thought was my worst. That is one of my favourite things about life though, there is always room to grow and evolve,” Osaka posted on X after winning the clay-court title in France.
Last year, Osaka failed to progress beyond the second round of any grand slam as she struggled with a lack of power and accuracy.
However, following this title triumph, the former World No. 1 is set to compete in the main draw of the French Open later this month. Osaka had reached the third round of the Australian Open in January before retiring due to injury.
She competed at the L'Open 35 following a disappointing campaign at the Madrid Open, where she was beaten in the opening round by Lucia Bronzetti.
Currently ranked world No. 55, Osaka will gain 100 points and rise seven spots to No. 48 when the WTA rankings update on Monday.
Osaka will next be in action at the Italian Open in Rome, with the women’s singles draw set to be revealed on Monday.
