A video of Trump-appointed interim U.S. Attorney for District of Columbia Ed Martin giving an interview with Newsmx on the streets of DC has gone viral. In the video, which was aired live on TV, a passer-by could be seen spitting on Martin while he spoke to the reporter. The video has gone viral on social media, gaining millions of views.
Here's the video shared by one user after recording it live from TV:
The incident happened in the wake of President Trump pulling Martin's nomination, after initially tapping him for the role of the top prosecutor in the District of Columbia. The pullback from Trump came amidst pressure from Senate Republicans over Martin's public praise for a Jan 6 rioter who dressed up as Hitler. Trump nominated Jeannie Pirro as the top DC prosecutor later on Thursday.
In the video, a woman can be seen walking her dog on the pavement when she comes across Martin speaking to Newsmax. He comes up to him and says, "You are Ed Martin!" and spits on him. Martin was surprised by the incident and reacted, saying, 'Whoa!'
After pulling Martin off, Trump announced that Ed Martin will now serve as associate deputy attorney general and pardon attorney, where he will recommend pardons for numerous individuals charged in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Upon returning to the office in January, Trump issued broad pardons and vowed to drop related prosecutions.
Martin will also lead the Justice Department’s newly formed “weaponization working group,” established in February to investigate former special counsel Jack Smith—whose two federal cases against Trump were dismissed—and other actions under President Biden that Republicans claim unfairly targeted conservatives.
