Given the rising tension across the border with Pakistan, all schools and colleges in the Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur districts of Punjab will remain closed till May 11. This decision has been taken in wake of the rising tensions on Indian borders with Pakistan.
In Ferozepur, the authorities ordered closure of schools for the next 72 hours till further orders, officials said. Schools in Fazilka would also remain closed till further orders, they said.
Meanwhile, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University has also postponed its end-semester examinations. A fresh datesheet will be announced soon.
The Rajasthan government has also closed schools in five districts amid heightened tension between India and Pakistan. Government and private schools have been closed in Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Barmer districts as a precautionary measure, officials said on Thursday. All Jodhpur colleges were also ordered to remain closed.
The decisions were made after Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma took stock of the situation in the border areas as India struck terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre that killed 26 people.
