When the Veolia Atlanta Pickleball Championships get underway next week (May 12–18), anticipation for a gold medal match between former women's doubles partners will grow manifold at Life Time Peachtree Corners.
This will mark the first tournament where Catherine Parenteau and Rachel Rohrabacher will play together after parting ways with their former teammates Anna Leigh Waters and Anna Bright.
The excitement is building up, and players are aware of the buzz.
Parenteau and Rohrabacher will head into the tournament as the top-seeded pair due to their superior ranking, while Waters and Bright - who have reunited for the second time in their careers - are the second seed. This raises hopes for the much-anticipated duel between partners turned rivals.
Rohrabacher and Bright - known as "The Girlies" - parted ways after the North Carolina Open, while Parenteau and Waters chose different paths after their loss in the final to Tyra Black and Jorja Johnson.
Now, as they gear up for a new chapter in their respective careers, Rohrabacher said: "I am so excited to play with Catherine in Atlanta. She is one of the most talented athletes to have ever stepped foot on the pickleball court."
"While we have had so many incredible battles throughout the past year, she has always been a true representation of class and a model professional for all those who aspire to someday compete on the PPA Tour," she added.
Forming a partnership with Parenteau comes with the added bonus of learning from one of the best coaches in the business in Athena Trouillot. "My ultimate goal is to always continue to improve, compete and win at the highest levels," insisted Rohrabacher. "I am really looking forward to the experience and knowledge that both Catherine and Athena bring to the table."
Both Rohrabacher–Parenteau, and Waters–Bright will open their campaigns in Atlanta on May 14 in the Round of 32.
Rohrabacher is eager to give their partnership a remarkable start. "Now that we take the court on the same side for the first time ever, there is no better tournament to begin this partnership than the Veolia Atlanta Pickleball Championships," concluded Rohrabacher.
