RAJNATH SINGH

A veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Rajnath Singh is currently serving as the Defence Minister of India. He is an MP from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and is also the Deputy Leader of the House in Lok Sabha. With a focus on self-reliance in defence, Rajnath Singh has been instrumental in steering the government's flagship 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' programme in the defence sector. During his tenure as the Defence Minister, India received the first batch of Rafale fighter jets from France.

During the previous National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, Rajnath Singh served as the Home Minister of India. A Cabinet minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Singh held the Road Transport and Highways and Agriculture portfolios under PM Vajpayee. He has been the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

A party veteran who started as an ordinary RSS Swayamsevak, Rajnath Singh rose to become the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party and held the office of BJP chief twice -between 2005-2009 and between 2013-2014. He has been elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Lucknow and once from Ghaziabad.
