Given the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, some miscreants have started spreading rumours of cancellations of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma level exams in colleges across the country. However, the claims have been dismissed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
"A fabricated public notice is being circulated under the name UGC, claiming that all exams are cancelled due to a war situation & advising students to return home. UGC confirms this notice is fake," the UGC notice stated.
The fake notice read:
"In light of the extraordinary and emergent situation arising from the ongoing war and in view of ensuring the safety and well-being of students, families, and institutions, the University Grants Commission hereby issues the following advisory:
All examinations at the undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certification levels, scheduled in May, 2025, stand cancelled with immediate effect until further notice. Students are advised to return to their homes at the earliest in interest of safety and security.
All Higher Educational Institutions are directed to comply with this advisory and extend necessary support to ensure the safe return of students and staff.
This is issued in the interest of public safety and to avoid any risks during the ongoing conflict."

"UGC confirms this notice is fake. There are no such directions from UGC. All official updates are only on the UGC website and official social media channels of UGC," the official tweet from the Ministry of Education (MoE) stated.
Meanwhile, all schools and colleges in several districts of Punjab and Rajasthan have been ordered to stay closed till further orders. All schools and colleges in the Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur districts of Punjab will remain closed till May 11. IK Gujral Punjab Technical University has also postponed its end-semester examinations.
In Rajasthan, government and private schools have been closed in Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Barmer districts as a precautionary measure, officials said on Thursday.
This decision has been taken in wake of the rising tensions on Indian borders with Pakistan.
