In a bid to revolutionise its tourism sector, Vietnam has come up with a 10-year golden visa program. The aim of this initiative is to attract long-term tourists and foreign professionals - which will also help make the country a key player in Southeast Asia's travel sector.

This development comes in when Vietnam has become one of the most-researched destination, especially by Indians. In 2023, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism reported a 231% increase in visitors from India compared with 2019. Other south-east Asian countries such as Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia are also seeing similarly huge jumps in arrivals - but not as much as Vietnam.

Vietnam has also streamlined its visa procedures for tourism and short-term business travel by introducing a digital-friendly process. Meaning, there is no need for embassy visits now. According to Vietnam+, over 7 million foreign visitors arrived in Vietnam during the first quarter of this year - marking a 23.8% year-on-year increase.

This surge can be attributed to improved flight connectivity from key Indian cities - including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.
