Purnima or full moon of the month of Vaishakh is considered extremely auspicious in Hinduism. Snan (ritualistic bathing for spiritual purification), daan (charity), and performing rituals on this day are believed to bring peace, happiness, and prosperity into one’s life. One of the most important aspect of this day is the special worship of Lord Vishnu, and it also marks the birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha. According to Drik Panchang, "People worship Lord Satyanarayana, an extremely benevolent form of Lord Vishnu, and observe Satyanarayana fasting on Purnima day."
It also states, "Many communities observe one day fast on Purnima Tithi according to their Kul Parampara. Kul Paramparas are family traditions passed from generation to generation."
When is Vaishakh Purnima this year?
In Hinduism, the observance of fasts and festivals is based on the sunrise timing of the lunar date (tithi). The day on which the Purnima tithi prevails at sunrise is considered the day of the festival. Based on this, Vaishakh Purnima Vrat will be observed on 12 May 2025.
The moonrise on 12 May will occur at 5:59 PM, which is the traditional time to offer arghya to the moon.

Buddha Jayanti falls on Vaishakha Purnima day and this day is celebrated as birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha."According to mythology, worship performed with a pure heart on this day fulfils all desires and removes obstacles from life.
