About Paddington In Peru
Everyone’s favourite marmalade-loving bear is back, and this time, he's trading London's foggy charm for the lush greenery of the Peruvian jungle. Previous Paddington movies, Paddington and Paddington 2, set remarkably high expectations. However, the third instalment in the franchise misses a pinch of old spark.
In the movie, Paddington takes us on an emotional and action-packed ride as Paddington embarks on a journey home to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, now residing at the Home for Retired Bears. But what begins as a warm family reunion quickly turns into a thrilling mystery that sends Paddington and the Brown family on an unexpected and unforgettable adventure. The film beautifully blends heart and humour, staying true to the gentle tone of the franchise while introducing a fresh backdrop and new challenges. Paddington’s signature kindness and optimism continue to be the film’s driving force, serving as a reminder of the power of goodness even when faced with uncertainty. His dynamic with the Browns is as charming as ever, and their bond only deepens as they navigate the twists and turns of their jungle escapade.
However, everything you’re looking for is here, just not quite as magical as it was back in 2017. The mystery at the heart of the story feels more forced, tangled up in too many unnecessary backstories, while the action leans heavily into slapstick territory, offering little real tension. The humour and physical comedy are pleasant enough to keep a grin on your face, but there are only a handful of moments that truly land as laugh-out-loud funny. The emotional depth doesn’t quite hit the same notes either. Though the script gently nods to themes like the bittersweet experience of being far from home and the value of family time, they don’t receive the same genuine warmth and sincerity that made Paddington 2 such a powerful ode to kindness and belonging.
Visually, Paddington in Peru is appealing. The film bursts with vibrant colours and sweeping landscapes that make the Peruvian setting come alive. From train rides through misty mountains to encounters in dense rainforests, each scene is crafted with care and detail, making it as much a visual treat as it is an emotional one.
Nevertheless, Paddington in Peru is a worthy addition to the franchise - fun, emotional, and packed with charm. Whether you’re a longtime fan or meeting Paddington for the first time, this film is bound to leave you smiling.
