Reena Vasudev (Sreeleela) an Australian NRI coming to India to visit her grandfather. Interim, a dangerous gang conspires to kill Reena. The film is about connect the dots…
Robinhood Analysis
Director Venky Kudumula earlier delivered hits like Chalo and Bheeshma. His strength lies in writing light-hearted conversations and humour. But Robinhood is far from complete. He couldn’t get to the bottom of the characters gravity. Perhaps one just gets the feeling that he was banking a lot on humour and wit than the story. Also, he picks up an age-old script that is tried and tested on Indian cinema. And at no point his script was engaging.
The director fails to come up with a refreshing or an engaging storyline. Nithiin’s characterization as Robinhood may come as a breath of fresh air but the plot is an age-old one. Although he delivers his best, there could have been a lot of scope for him to exhibit his acting chops had the writing would have been sharp. He looks stylish and his comic timing too is good, but he is underutilized in this character. The film yet again reaffirms that star cast is of no use if you have a mediocre script
The scenes give us resemblances to films like Ravi Teja-starrer Kick. When the protagonist is a Robinwood, we expect the burglary to be interesting and engaging. But the director was in a hurry to wrap up with robbery acts not making any impact. He did not stick to his plotline and deviated and made the film like a half-hearted attempt. Rajendra Prasad and Vennela Kishore evoke laughter and are the only saving grace but they too can’t shoulder the film. Robinhood just works in parts because the director did not have a strong script, and with weak characters, the film is only heading south.
Performances
Nithiin is adequate but his role could have been written a lot better. Sreeleela has nothing to do in the film – don’t even know why she was cast. Rajendra Prasad and Vennela Kishore give you some respite.
Final Word
Robinhood is a poorly written script. It’s a half-baked attempt to blend action and comedy.
