India on Thursday dismissed claims on social media about a drone attack in Punjab's Jalandhar. In Jalandhar, some drones were spotted but were neutralised around 11:20 pm by security forces. However, a video was shared at around 7:39 pm claiming a drone attack in the city. The authorities said that it was an old video of a farm fire.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, the Press Information Bureau's Fact-Checking Unit said that an old and unrelated video was being shared online.
"Drone Attack in Jalandhar⁉️ This drone strike video from #Jalandhar is widely circulating on social media. This is an unrelated video of a farm fire. The video has the time 7:39 PM, while the drone attack began later," PIB Fact-Check Unit posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Meanwhile, DC Jalandhar, IAS Himanshu Aggarwal, also said that an unrelated video was being shared on social media platforms. "This is an unrelated video. Jalandhar has seen some drones tonight and are being neutralised by Army. This video is at 7.39 pm as can be seen in the display while first drone was sighted near 9 pm. This has been confirmed as a farm fire. Plz dont spread the video," the DC posted on social media platforms.
A blackout was enforced in several districts of Punjab like Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Mohali and also the Union Territory Chandigarh on Thursday evening. Officials said that the blackout was enforced as a precautionary measure to ensure safety of citizens.
