A suspicious bomb-like object was discovered Friday morning in the Kishanghat area of Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, prompting a rapid response from police and Indian Air Force personnel.
Police said the object was found near a nursery in a colony inhabited by members of the Jogi community, situated opposite the Kishanghat locality under the jurisdiction of the Kotwali police station. The area was immediately cordoned off as a precaution, reports PTI.
Kotwali Station House Officer Prem Daan said, "It appears to be a bomb-like device."
"We are currently unable to determine whether it is active or damaged." He confirmed that a military bomb disposal unit was en route to assess and defuse the object.
The object was initially spotted by a local resident, Arjun Nath, who notified Kalyan Ram, the representative of the Kishanghat village head. Ram then alerted authorities. Police and Air Force teams quickly responded to the location.
Preliminary reports suggest the object may be related to a drone launched from Pakistan late Thursday night, around 10:30 PM. While the object resembles drone debris, an official confirmation from the government is awaited.
On Thursday night, residents across western Rajasthan — including Jaisalmer and neighbouring districts — reported hearing a series of loud explosions. A blackout in border areas, including Jaisalmer, followed amid fears of cross-border aggression.
Several residents of Ranau said they initially had no idea what was happening during the blackout. “Later, we learned there was an attack from Pakistan,” one resident said, as quoted by PTI.
Similar incidents were reported in the Bikaner district, where Indian forces reportedly shot down Pakistani drones. In the Khajuwala block’s 40 KYD village, locals said they heard explosions and saw bright lights in the sky.
Rajvir Singh, a retired serviceman from 40 KYD, describing the night’s events, said, "The explosions woke us up. We heard everything clearly and saw flashes of light. People were initially scared, but once we learned our forces had retaliated, everyone was proud.”
Meanwhile, district authorities have asked citizens to remain calm and follow all safety precautions amid heightened security measures.
