Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol's DDLJ Statue Inaugural Event In London Postponed Following Operation Sindoor | Exclusive
Aditya Chopra-led Yash Raj Films was gearing up for an early kickstart to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’s 30th anniversary celebration. An evergreen film that redefined Bollywood romance, the director-producer set the platform to launch a statue in London. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s iconic pose was set to be immortalised in the form of a bronze statue at Leicester Square sometime this week.
DDLJ statue inaugural event postponed
Zoom has learnt that the statue's inaugural event has been postponed after India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the neighbouring country’s terrorist attack on Pahalgam in April that took the lives of 26 civilians.
An industry source revealed, “In keeping with the current situation and to express solidarity with the nation and its brave army, the DDLJ statue launch has been postponed to a later time and date.”
All you need to know about the statue
The statue will be placed along the eastern terrace, outside the Odeon cinema, to honour the iconic pose. Besides this, the film featured locations like Horse Guards Avenue, Hyde Park, Tower Bridge and King’s Cross Station. The DDLJ statue will be located next to iconic film characters like Harry Potter, Laurel & Hardy, Bugs Bunny, Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain, Mary Poppins, Mr. Bean, Paddington and DC Super-Heroes Batman and Wonder Woman.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge follows two non-resident Indians, Raj and Simran, and their star-crossed love story across Europe and India, beginning on a train from King’s Cross Station. The location couldn’t be more fitting, with Leicester Square featuring in a scene when the characters first cross paths, albeit unbeknownst to one another, before setting off on their European adventure. The sequence also included two of the square’s cinemas prominently, with Raj seen in front of the Vue cinema, and Simran walking past the Odeon Leicester Square.
